This drawing project entailed creating a series of drawings through the use of a drawing apparatus pulled in a Paris Expedition sledge. I have been referring to these as ahkio drawings. Ahkio is a Finnish term, derived from the Lappish word ‘akja,’ for an open, canoe-shaped sled. Diffused through Scandinavia, the ahkio was adopted by the military as an item of equipment for over-snow movement a vehicle of various forms, mounted on runners and often drawn by draft animals, used for traveling or for conveying loads over snow, ice, rough ground. One drawing was completed each day while pulling the sledge through Wyoming's Wind River Range over the course of seven days.
